Nokia partners with Lenovo to modernize data center networks for AI and machine learning workloads.
The collaboration will combine Lenovo’s ThinkSystem AI-enabled servers and storage capabilities with Nokia’s data center networking solution, including the recently launched Event-Driven Automation (EDA) platform. This integration is aimed at enterprises, telecom companies and cloud service providers seeking a robust infrastructure for compute-intensive operations.
At the heart of this partnership is the growing demand for training and inference capabilities for AI models. The alliance addresses the urgent need for fast, secure connectivity between data centers and edge locations, where AI clusters require seamless connectivity both internally and across distributed locations.
The joint solution introduces a validated blueprint architecture that promises improved observability and programmability – essential features for adapting to dynamic workload requirements. Both companies have highlighted the security aspect of their offering, integrating real-time threat detection and prevention mechanisms to fend off increasingly sophisticated cyberattacks.
Sustainability plays a key role in the partnership’s value proposition. The solution leverages energy-efficient designs to reduce power consumption and operating costs, addressing one of the most pressing issues in modern data center operations.
Charles Ferland, VP of Edge and CSPs at Lenovo, said: “Lenovo has a long-standing commitment to delivering the most reliable and sustainable AI infrastructure. Our partnership with Nokia to bundle AI solutions is a natural fit.”
“Together, we offer a robust platform that meets the needs of the telecom and enterprise sectors, enabling them to deploy AI clouds and manage their data efficiently.”
The partnership will see the introduction of Lenovo’s Neptune liquid cooling technology alongside Nokia’s automated data fabric, creating a state-of-the-art, sustainable infrastructure solution, according to the companies.
Vach Kompella, SVP and GM of Nokia’s IP Networks business unit, commented: “Our partnership with Lenovo is an example of Nokia’s commitment to innovation and excellence in data center solutions.
“By combining Nokia’s Data Center Fabric and Event Driven Automation with Lenovo’s ThinkSystem AI portfolio, we deliver a high-performance, scalable data center networking solution designed to efficiently manage and automate AI/ML workloads.”
The collaboration comes at a crucial time as organizations worldwide grapple with the infrastructure requirements of AI implementation. Nokia and Lenovo aim to capitalize on the growing market for AI-enabled data center solutions.
